Where to Go in Cambodia

The sunset on the way from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap.

Last December I finally got the chance to visit one of the countries to travel to on my bucket list, which was Cambodia. I first wanted to visit Cambodia after watching Angelina Jolie's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (obviously) when I was seven or eight years old. During my trip to Cambodia, I had the opportunity to visit the capital city, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, which was more like the Bali of Cambodia (a tourist town).

Phnom Penh
I only spent one night in Phnom Penh so I didn't get the chance to go around many places but I recommend you to visit The Royal Palace right in the middle of the capital. It was obviously one of the most important places in the Kingdom of Cambodia. I found it very beautiful, peaceful and it was a very inspiring place to go. If you've been to the Summer Palace in Thailand...this was somewhat similar to it but it had its own characteristics as a Cambodian monumental venue.

Siem Reap
After going to Phnom Penh, I took an eight hour long bus ride to the north side of Cambodia to visit Siem Reap and spent two nights there. I had the chance to visit Angkor Village and see the temples (by the way Angelina Jolie shot Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in Angkor Village) and the Tonle Sap Lake. It was an amazing experience!

Being in Cambodia really put me into perspective about life. I was really grateful to be able to visit this beautiful country and hope to visit there again if I have the opportunity.

By the way, don't worry about getting around in Cambodia. People speak English really well in Cambodia - I was totally taken by surprise.
